Death and Bereavement
Public Servants have leave, benefits and other arrangements in place to assist them when there is a death in the family.
If a member of your immediate family dies, you may have to make adjustments to your coverage levels under your insurance benefits programs. You may also want to make changes to your designated beneficiaries under the PSMIP, if applicable, your Public Service Pension plan and the Supplementary Death Benefit Plan. You should consult the following:
- Public Service Health Care Plan FAQ's
- Public Service Dental Care Plan FAQ's
- Life Insurance FAQ's (Supplementary Death Benefit and Public Service Management Insurance Program)
- Your Pension Plan, particularly
- Supplementary Death Benefit
Your compensation advisor will be pleased to advise you on the steps you need to take to amend your coverage and change your beneficiaries under these programs.
If you would like assistance in dealing with the effects of a death in your family, the Employee Assistance Program could be of use to you. Your compensation advisor will give you further details on the services available under this program.
