Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act
Prescribes the requirements that govern the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information by all federally regulated private sector organizations and by government corporations not covered by the Privacy Act, in the course of commercial activity.It also provides for the use of electronic alternatives to record or communicate information or transactions, describes the characteristics of secure electronic signatures, and the conditions under which electronic signatures can be used to authenticate business transactions and to provide evidence in legal proceedings.

Privacy Act
Prescribes the requirements to protect the privacy of individuals with respect to personal information held by a federal institution and to provide individuals with a right of access to that information.
