1 The Department of National Defence (DND), the Canadian Forces (CF) and the organizations and agencies that make up the full Defence portfolio are collectively referred to as Defence.
2 The Canadian Forces (CF) comprise four integrated operational commands: Canada Command, Canadian Expeditionary Force Command, Canadian Special Operations Forces Command and Canadian Operational Support Command as well as three environmental commands: the Navy, Army and Air Force.
