Figure 2 Expenditure profile, 2008-09 to 2014-15

This line graph shows the seven-year trend of Statistics Canada's total spending. It also shows a seven-year trend of Statistics Canada's net spending. The period covered is divided into four fiscal years of actual spending, from 2008-09 to 2011-12, and three fiscal years of planned spending, from 2012-13 to 2014-15. All spending is in thousands of dollars.

The X axis shows fiscal years, from 2008-09 to 2014-15.

The Y axis shows dollar values. The scale begins at 300,000 and goes to 900,000 (representing $900 000 thousands), in increments of 100,000 (representing 100 000 thousands of dollars).

Total spending (including cost recovery and censuses) increases from around 615 000 thousands of dollars in 2008-09 and 2009-10 and from 671 000 thousands of dollars in 2010-11 to a peak of 863 000 thousands of dollars in 2011-12. Total spending then declines to 575 000 thousands of dollars in 2012-13 and to around 530 000 thousands of dollars in 2013-14 and 2014-15.

Total spending net of cost recovery follows a pattern similar to that of total spending, rising from around 500 000 thousands of dollars in 2008-09 and 2009-10 and from 575 000 thousands of dollars in 2010-11 to a peak of 753 000 thousands of dollars in 2011-12. Afterward, it decreases to 455 000 thousands of dollars in 2012-13 and to a little over 400 000 thousands of dollars in 2013-14 and 2014-15.

Spending net of cost recovery and censuses presents a different pattern, remaining relatively steady between 430 000 thousands of dollars and 450 000 thousands of dollars from 2008-09 and 2011-12. It then declines to just under 400 000 thousands of dollars in 2012-13, where it remains virtually unchanged for 2013-14 and 2014-15.
