The feeder population for the executive workforce is depicted in a multi-level pyramid. At the base of the pyramid are 17,769 employees at the EX Minus 2 level in the Core Public Administration. The next level of the pyramid is made up of 10,842 EX Minus 1 employees. Above them are 5,900 EX Equivalent employees. The top of the pyramid is representative of 4,790 Executive level employees.

• Combined, EX Equivalents to EX Minus 2 accounted for approximately 19% (34,511) of the core public administration.
• From 2001-2007 the average age remained relatively unchanged and currently stands at:
  • Executives – 50.6
  • EX Equivalent – 49
  • EX Minus 1 – 47.6
  • EX Minus 2 – 45.7
• A substantial number in the recruitment pool for EXs is below the age of 40:
  • EX Equivalent – 18%
  • EX Minus 1 – 21%
  • EX Minus 2 – 30%
