Less time in line for international travellers

The last thing you want when travelling is to spend hours in line at the passport office or airport. With advanced self-serve kiosks, a new mobile app for customs declarations and expanded passport services, the Government of Canada is taking steps to shrink wait times at international airports and passport offices across the country.

Automated border services

Self-serve kiosks at airports across Canada cut down how long Canadians have to spend waiting in line to re-enter the country. We’ll introduce these kiosks to more Canadian airports over time.

Paperless declarations

Most airports have phased out the paper customs declaration cards typically distributed at the end of a flight. Instead, travellers use a primary inspection kiosk to complete their declaration. Travellers can save more time by preparing their declaration in advance using the CanBorder eDeclaration mobile app and scanning it at the kiosks. The app is available for Apple, Android and BlackBerry devices.

Greater access to passport services

In 2017-18, passport services were successfully expanded to Service Canada Centres increasing access for clients to apply for or renew a passport. Passport services are now available to Canadians at 347 sites across the country.
