Immigration

Swifter immigration processing

In the past, citizenship and spousal sponsorship applications sometimes took more than a year to be processed, imposing delays for people seeking to come to Canada to study, work, live or join a loved one. That’s changing today thanks to faster processing times and application progress updates.

Applications processed in a year or less

We’re committed to processing citizenship and spousal sponsorship applications within 12 months, regardless of the applicant’s country of origin.

A simplified application process

In the past, applying for a spouse to join you in Canada was a lengthy and complicated process, with a number of guides and forms to review and complete. Changes to the spousal application process in January 2017 have sped things up significantly and reduced the number of spouses waiting to be sponsored for entry into Canada. In addition, more streamlined checklists, forms and guides have also been introduced — all changes that are helping to reunite families more quickly.
