The image illustrates a simple matrix to help assess the severity or level of risk based on the potential impact and likelihood of a threat as portrayed along the vertical (impact) and horizontal (likelihood) axes. The matrix is comprised of nine boxes (three by three). Together they represent four levels of risk. Beginning at the lower left hand corner and moving perpendicular towards the upper right corner, the boxes are coloured and labelled as follows: green (low), yellow (medium), red (high), and dark red (critical).
