The following are the numbers by fiscal year (Note: The totals may not be exactly 100% due to rounding):

For the fiscal year 2005-06 the cost per appeal is $2,130 and the average processing time is 9.2 months. 6,500 appeals were filed, 5,800 appeals were finalized and 8,700 were waiting.

Finalized appeals are broken down into the following percentages: 41% were allowed, 28% were withdrawn/abandoned and 31% were dismissed.

Appeals waiting are broken down into the following percentages: 36% for 0 to 6 months, 28% for 7 to 12 months and 36% for 1 year or more.

 

For the fiscal year 2006-07 the cost per appeal is $2,260 and the average processing time is 9.9 months. 6,800 appeals were filed, 6,300 appeals were finalized and 9,200 were waiting.

Finalized appeals are broken down into the following percentages: 43% were allowed, 26% were withdrawn/abandoned and 31% were dismissed.

Appeals waiting are broken down into the following percentages: 38% for 0 to 6 months, 25% for 7 to 12 months and 37% for 1 year or more.

 

For the fiscal year 2007-08 the cost per appeal is $2,330 and the average processing time is 10.1 months. 6,800 appeals were filed, 6,500 appeals were finalized and 9,500 were waiting.

Finalized appeals are broken down into the following percentages: 39% were allowed, 30% were withdrawn/abandoned and 31% were dismissed.

Appeals waiting are broken down into the following percentages: 33% for 0 to 6 months, 28 % for 7 to 12 months and 39% for 1 year or more.

 

For the fiscal year 2008-09 the cost per appeal is $2,800 and the average processing time is 11.1 months. 7,450 appeals were filed, 6,350 appeals were finalized and 10,600 were waiting.

Finalized appeals are broken down into the following percentages: 39% were allowed, 28% were withdrawn/abandoned and 34% were dismissed.

Appeals waiting are broken down into the following percentages: 37% for 0 to 6 months, 26% for 7 to 12 months and 37% for 1 year or more.
